Apple is ready to introduce the M4 variants of the MacBook Pro and the Mac mini on November 1, as detailed by a prominent analyst, but it brings us to question when the company would introduce the highest-end variants of the chip. We expect the company to introduce the new M4 Pro and M4 Max chips in the new products, but it remains to be seen when the company announces the M4 Ultra chip for the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro. Well, we now have an answer, and the upgrades are coming sooner rather than later.
M4 Ultra-powered Mac Pro and Mac Studio to launch in the second half of 2025 with major performance gains
The M4 chip is quite powerful when it comes to performance, and we have already seen the benchmarks of the MacBook Pro leaked. The company will have a busy year next year as there are a handful if new chips and products in store, including the new iPhone SE 4, which is expected to arrive in the Spring of 2025. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg states in his latest Power On newsletter that the company will announce the new Mac Pro and Mac Studio with M4 Ultra chip in the second half of next year.
The analyst claims that the M4 Ultra and M4 Mac chips will be introduced with the Mac Pro and Mac Studio in mid to late 2025, and we can presume that the launch time frame starts from WWDC and ends at the company's event for MacBook Pro upgrades. If the company decided to launch the M4 Ultra powered Mac Pro and Mac Studio in the middle of the year, we can expect the machines to drop at WWDC 2025, alongside the iOS 19 and macOS 16 announcement.
The M4 chip is based on TSMC's 3nm process, and the higher-end variants will take true advantage of the N3E process, which will deliver better computational and graphical performance while being more power efficient. If the company decides to launch the machines later in 2025, we can expect the M4 Ultra chip to arrive in the last quarter. This is because the company typically holds an event during this time frame.
In a few weeks, Apple will announce the M4 Pro and M4 Max chip for the MacBook Pro models and the redesigned Mac mini. The performance gains will give us an indication of how powerful the M4 Ultra chip can really be based on real-world usage and considering the past trends, we are expecting major gains in terms of both CPU and GPU. We will share more details on the M4 Ultra chip as soon as further details are available.
